Union Mills May 1, 56 Dr. Wirt, Your letter has been recd. enclosing two from me. I made a mistake as to dates. I only sent you ten dollars on the 11th, so that you have recd. all that has been heretofore sent. And your last letter acknowledges the rect. of the five dollars last sent. I can only send you 5$ at this time as I am nearly out of funds, so that you will have to shift with it until the next mail, when I will endeavor to send you as much more. Have you purchased any additional clothing for summer use latterly[?]. If not I suppose it will soon be necessary, though I have not yet found my winter clothes too heavy or warm yet. If you get any thing I would have you to think of the expense of washing, & try to select such as will not require washing if possible. For a coat such a coat, such a coat as I have that I got last summer, of that grey xxx stuff I think you will recollect it, would be pleasant and not require any washing. Any thing of that description will be more agreeable, and save trouble and expense in washing, which in fact will soon cost as much as you paid for the article, and without great care in a short time looks dingy. all well. affly, your father A. K. Shriver |
