PRESS RELEASE - SPOOM Mid-Atlantic Chapter Plans for August 2008 Meeting Click here for full color brochure including registration form (pdf)
The next Mid-Atlantic Chapter meeting of SPOOM (Society for the Preservation of Old Mills) will be held in York County Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday, August 8 & 9. The historic Wallace Cross Mill and Muddy Creek Forks Mill in southern York County and the reconstructed Bradley Mill located within the Agricultural and Industrial Museum in downtown York will all be featured. Knowledgeable experts will be available at all three sites to describe the restoration and interpretation process.
Presentations are planned to assist groups and individuals who own a mill or other historic site in three areas: branding and marketing the site, preparing educational displays to tell the story, and developing funding sources and strategies to ensure future preservation.
Possible sites for touring on Thursday or Sunday will also be suggested.
The SPOOM MA business meeting will be held on Saturday. The chapter is focusing its future activities in two areas: (1) to be a helpful middleman between mill owners and preservation experts and (2) to encourage the public mills in the Mid-Atlantic region to host chapter meetings that reach out to the public and tell them about the SPOOM mission and the fascination of historic mills. Initiatives are currently underway in both areas.
Conference events are open to SPOOM members and all other mill enthusiasts. A brochure containing the schedule, registration form, costs, hotel accommodations and other information is available online at www.yorkcountyparks.org or through the Event Registrar at 717-741-4366 or JudyGrove@Verizon.net. |
